Lofoten International Art Festival LIAF 2022

Lofoten International Art Festival LIAF 2022 is curated by the duo Francesco Urbano Ragazzi and is entitled FANTASMAGORIANA. The festival period is from September 3 to October 2 of 2022, at five sites in the city of Kabelvåg and one in Svolvær.

LIAF 2022: Conversation with Nolan Oswald Dennis and Raffaela Naldi Rossano

Lofoten International Art Festival (LIAF) 2022 artists Nolan Oswald Dennis and Raffaela Naldi Rossano are arriving in Tromsø after a three-week trip with F/F Helmer Hanssen from Tromsø and up along the coast. In collaboration with Academy of Arts, UiT and the research group Worlding Northern Art (WONA), UiT a conversation led by Hanne Hammer Stien will be held at Academy of Arts, June 15th at 5 pm. Stien is a member of LIAF`s advisory board.

LIAF2022 preview at Kunstnernes Hus: Kenneth Goldsmith’s Retyping a Library

Lofoten International Art Festival and Kunstnernes Hus are delighted to announce Retyping a Library, a solo exhibition by Kenneth Goldsmith (New York 1961) opening on 9 June 2022 at Kunstnernes Hus in Oslo. Curated by Francesco Urbano Ragazzi, artistic director of LIAF2022, and Anne Hilde Neset, director of Kunstnernes Hus, the exhibition presents a new commission by the American artist and writer.

LIAF2022 PREVIEW PROJECT REVEALED FOR VENICE BIENNALE: SOMETHING OUT OF IT

LIAF – Lofoten International Art Festival is pleased to announce Something Out of It, a preview exhibition opening in conjunction with the 59th Venice Biennale of Visual Arts. Curated by Italian duo Francesco Urbano Ragazzi, Something Out of It has been conceived as a precursory exploration of the curatorial themes set for the 30th edition of LIAF, temporarily uprooted from Lofoten Islands in the Arctic circle to the Venetian lagoon. The project will take place in two venues: the parlour and courtyard of a functioning women’s prison, and a private palazzo.

Official launch of Groundings

Occasional Groundwork—an alliance of three European biennials (EVA International, Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art, Lofoten International Art Festival)—announces the official launch of Groundings, an ongoing series of commissioned texts exploring themes of internationalism, sustainability, and cultural infrastructure within the context of the contemporary art biennial and the shift in conditions imposed by the ongoing pandemic.

Occasional Groundwork: Groundings

We’re delighted to announce the release of four newly commissioned texts, published in partnership with Eva International (Ireland), and Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art (Sweden), as part of the Occasional Groundwork initiative.

LIAF 2022 engages regional artists as part of Bodø 2024

LIAF 2022 engages regional artists in long-term artist residency programs in northern Norway, as part of Bodø 2024, the European Capital of Culture. A total of four artists and artist groups based in the region will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in art projects as part of LIAF 2022 and Bodø 2024. The invitation includes a scholarship of 100,000 NOK to each of the invited artists / artist groups.

The second in a series of co-commissioned texts as part of the Occasional Groundwork initiative, an alliance of three European biennials: EVA (Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art), GIBCA (Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art, Sweden) and LIAF.
