Just what is it that makes today so familiar, so uneasy?

Bani Abidi

Bani Abidi (1971, Pakistan) lives and works in Karachi, Pakistan, and New Delhi, India. Working with photography, video and drawing the artists looks at manifestations of state power and resilience in civil society. Recent solo exhibitions include ‘Section Yellow’, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art (Gateshead, UK, 2011/12), Green Cardamom (London, UK, 2010) and Project 88 (Mumbai, India, 2010). Her works have been shown in group exhibitions such as ‘dOCUMENTA (13)’ (Kassel, Germany, 2012), ‘The Global Contemporary. Art Worlds After 1989’, ZKM | Center for Art and Media (Karlsruhe, Germany, 2011/12), ‘The Spectacle of the Everyday’, the 10th Lyon Biennale (Lyon, France, 2009) and ‘Annual Report – A Year in Exhibitions’, the 7th Gwangju Biennale (Gwangju, South Korea, 2008). Abidi was an Artist in Residence at the DAAD Berliner Künstlerprogramm for the year 2011/2012.
