Just what is it that makes today so familiar, so uneasy?

István Csákány

István Csákány (1978, Romania) lives and works in Isaszeg, Hungary. His sculptures, installations and monuments are characterised by a sensitive conceptual approach, as well as a surprising use of material and craftsmanship. Several of his works deal with the complex and ambiguous relationships between personal and political ideologies, their reconstructions, mutations and aftereffects. Solo exhibitions include ‘Bernsteinzimmer’, Make Up Gallery (Košice, Slovakia, 2010), ‘Good Luck!’, Galéria Kiállítóháza (Budapest, Hungary, 2010) and ‘It Was An Experience To Be Here!’, Meetfactory (Prague, Czech Republic, 2009). His works have been shown in exhibitions such as ‘dOCUMENTA (13)’ (Kassel, germany, 2012), ‘Lost Stories’, BWA SOKOŁ Gallery of Contemporary Art (Nowy Sacz, Poland, 2011) and ‘The Science of Imagination’, Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art (Budapest, Hungary, 2011). His work is represented in several collections, such as the Ludwig Museum – Museum of Contemporary Art and Mudam Luxembourg – MuseÅLe d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean.
