Sven Augustijnen

Sven Augustijnen (1970, Belgium) lives and works in Brussels, Belgium. He combines different media and formats such as fi lm, home videos, documentary, photo series and newspaper inserts. Since 2005 he has been working on his extended Spectres project, which examines Europe’s colonial history. Augustijnen compels the viewer to reread historical legitimisation through the manipulation of written history and the hidden agendas of politicians, historians, journalists and documentary makers. Selected solo exhibitions include ‘Vox’, Centre de l’image Comtemporaine (Montreal, Canada, 2013), Wiels, Contemporary Art Centre (Brussels, Belgium, 2011), and de Appel arts centre (Amsterdam, Netherlands, 2011). His works have been included in group exhibitions such as ‘Plaisance’, Midway Contemporary Art (Minneapolis, USA, 2013). ‘TRACK’,S.M.A.K museum (Ghent, Belgium, 2012) and ‘My Communism’, TOP Contemporary Art Centre (Shanghai, China, 2011).
